Praise God with us in all He has done through these Strategy Coordinator Partners this past year! Pray for perseverance and growth in the new believers and the developing maturity of emerging leaders in the areas where these churches minister. Pray also for our faithful national partners as they work alongside of our US partners. Pray that they will be renewed and refreshed in these "slower" months. Continue to pray for the lost of Peru. The fields are still white!

Please also pray for our team. Currently REAPNorth consists of, the Olsons, Mindy McCord, Tommy Smith, the Glovers (currently on stateside assignment), and Jim Gilstrap (currently on stateside assignment). As of January 2012, we are officially joining forces with REAPSouth and are becoming one team! We are excited about this and are praying for a smooth transition. Please pray also for REAPSouth team members, the Llorens, and Candy Bruce. Pray that we will all be unified in the Spirit and consequently in our ministry. Praise God with us as well for our amazing long-term volunteers. What would we do without them??

Pray for this upcoming year- the changes and decisions that lay before us. Pray also for our supervisors, Marty and Melissa Childers. Pray for rest for them! Pray for wisdom and guidance for them as well.

Merry Christmas to all of you! I hope the season is bright and full of joy because of the hope that is Christ Jesus. We are so grateful for all of you and the sweet aroma of your prayers!

Hello to all you beautiful prayer warriors out there! We are so thankful for your service to the Father in your prayers for our team. What would we do without your faithful intercession?

Please be praying this week for David Olson and Brian Henderson as they lead a vision trip to the Pasco area of Peru. Pasco's capital city, Cerro de Pasco is referred to as the "roof of the world" and rightly so with an elevation of 14,500ft. Pray for the teams health and safety at such a high altitude.

This group is from Watson Chapel Church from Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Pray for them as they pray and look this week for what God is calling them to. Pray for clarity and opportunities to share. Pray for endurance and creativity in thinking.

Last week this team from Crossroads Church ministered in Panoa, Peru. They held a vet clinic- a unique way to get into harder to reach places and make some good contacts and share the gospel. Praise God for the work He did through this group! They were able to show the Jesus film in Pachitea Quechua! How exciting for this people group to see this film in their own language. Pray that the contacts made will be followed up with by local believers and the work will continue and the ministry flourish! Praise the Lord!

Good News from the Jungle!

News from our teammates, Jeremy and Crystal Nelson:

Humble Area First Baptist Church, TX made a video of their March 2011 trip. They provided leadership for a leadership development/training as well as an eye clinic. It was a really amazing trip and I'm so glad they put together a video of some of those moments. Jeremy Nelson and the team were able to begin some solid Biblical teaching with believers, pass out Bibles in URARINA!!, have a Urarina pastor baptize someone for the first time and much more! Praise the Lord for what he is doing among the Urarina.

Almost two weeks ago, after our weekly Bible study, our friend and newest translator accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior!

Please pray for Freddy in his new walk of faith:

Update from Ingleside Baptist Team...

Here is the May 18, 2011 update from the Ingleside Baptist Team:

The morning started with breakfast and a tour of our host's Guinea Pig stalls. Yes, they raise Guinea Pigs! Then, we packed up all our stuff and headed to the Church for our final service at Santa Cruz.

Eddie started the teaching with a lesson on the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper, following David's lesson on Baptism yesterday. Pastor Josue spoke on the importance of an Order of Worship in planning services, which seems natural to us but apparently is not to these pastors. David finished our teaching with a lesson on Perseverance from Hebrews 12.

To conclude the service, Pastor Raul gathered all of us and all of the Pastors in a circle, at which time each Pastor personally thanked our group and our Church for the ministry we have in their area. We were awestruck at the sincerity and passion in which they spoke. They then asked to pray for us, our families, and Ingleside, Peruvian style. Everyone prays there prayers at the same time, and we were overwhelmed at the outpouring of love and gratitude, all the while giving Glory to God (Gloria Rios) . It was an amazing time for all of us.

The service ended with another excellent lunch of soup with chicken. Our Peruvian translators were also served Cuy (Guinea Pig!). Pastor Josue shared some of his with Martin and Eddie, and we can report that it's pretty good.

We said our good byes to the folks in the Santa Cruz region and headed to Huaylas with Pastor Josue. We attended his service tonight. Don gave his personal testimony and David taught his lesson on Perseverance again from Hebrews 12. David showed amazing skill as he kept right on preaching when 2 dogs started fighting in the sanctuary, only to be broken up by an elderly Peruvian man whacking one of them with his wooden chair. David never missed a beat with his teaching.

Pastor Josue asked us to sing a song for his congregation, which puzzled me because he had heard us sing last night. So, we sang a full unrehearsedversion of Amazing Grace for them. Though off key and a bit pitchy, we enjoyed singing it together and God was glorified in it.

Tomorrow we will minister to some of the congregation here in Huaylas before beginning the return trip to Lima for our return on Saturday.

Thanks to all who are praying for us. It has been an amazing time!

Ingleside Baptist Church Requests and News...

Here is the update from yesterday:

One thing these men asked specifically for in prayer was to speak God's word with boldness. Let's pray today that the Holy Spirit would pour out on them giving them the boldness they are desiring, and that God would be glorified through that. Pray that the Lord would prepare the hearts of the hearers of the word to receive the great truths He is going to reveal to them today.

"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Ps 37:4 What a great promise from our Lord! As the men on this team and the Peruvians are delighting themselves in the Lord, there hearts will desire the right things. Glory to God!!!

"After breakfast, we headed down the rocky, bumpy road back to Zatza. All roads in the Santa Cruz area are very bad, worse than you're imagining. You can't drive more than 5 miles an hour in many places.

When we got there, they served everyone fried egg sandwiches which were the best food we've had so far, and some mint tea that was very good. The service started as usual with singing and praying. Sometimes, the leaders pray and speak in the Quechua language. And when they pray, everyone prays aloud their own individual prayers. Alejandro gave the first message which was about the relationship between the church leaders and the congregation. Then David gave a message on Baptism which brought lots of questions, comments, and discussion afterwards. Then they fed us chicken soup and hot peppers (rocoto) and a dessert made from squash.

There wasn't enough time for another lesson because they're having a service there tonight. So we sang and prayed some more and went back to Conay and made food for the service tomorrow. After a dinner of PBJ, we went back to Zatza for an evening service. It's amazing what they go through to get to the service. It takes 20-30 minutes for us to drive there and some people walk and many are very old women. In the churches, everyone always greets everyone else on the way in and when leaving. They sing and pray very passionately.

During the service, Eddie gave a lesson on heaven. Tomorrow, we're going back Zatza for the last day of the conference, then down the mountain and up the mountain on the other side of the valley to Huaylas."

We just received an update from Grace Baptist Church in Somerset, KY reporting that 18 people gathered for a Bible Study in Viscas, a town they had little influence in until this trip. Please pray for those who attended the Bible study to continue seeking the Lord and His truth.

The Conchucos Team

Pictured above are the people and their families who are serving in the Northern and Southern Conchucos Valley. They live in places that are isolated and often difficult to reach due to hazardous road conditions. These places are dominated by tradition and syncretism. As they serve they are also learning to speak the local dialect of Quechua. From April 3 through 6 they will receive further training on Bible Storying and leadership development. Please pray that through their studies the team will be better prepared for reaching the people God has called them to reach!

Prayer Request from Japan

I know many of you are praying for our brothers and sisters in Japan. This prayer request comes from a veteran missionary in Japan:

“Over the last 24 hours I have had a growing sense of the need to communicate a single priority prayer request for Japan. I would really appreciate it if everyone who receives this message passes it on to their own network of people. We need to unite around this request. Here it is:

Pray that the winds begin to blow eastward and stay low, out of the jet stream--toward the Pacific ocean and away from the land mass of Japan--and continue to blow EAST until the nuclear crisis is over. This is critical. Staying low, and eastward is essential for limiting the damage.

As you know, the four nuclear reactors in Fukushima are all deteriorating, and levels of radioactive emissions are rising. This has the potential to directly affect a large part of the nation, if reactors continue the meltdown process and emissions blow directly over the land. A strong, consistent, prevailing wind to the east would have a profound protective effect on future radioactive emissions. In addition, if the emissions rise to the jet stream, they will be carried as far away as Europe.

In the history of Japan a "divine wind" has played a pivotal role in the survival of the nation several times. Now is the time for Christians to arise, and lay hold of God for a powerful east wind to protect this land, and all the countries that lie to the north, west, and south. The east is the only direction without heavily populated land masses.

As you pray for physical wind, also include the request for the "wind" of the Holy Spirit to blow with great power over this land and create a spiritual revival that will remake Japan from the inside out. That spiritual wind is just as important as the physical wind--these are two aspects of one crucial prayer request for this nation."

Caraz ~ Searching for a Man of Peace

This week a team of 4 (with 2 translators) from the South Fork Association in North Carolina will return to the city of Caraz at the north end of the Huaylas Valley. While there the team will prayer walk, witness, study the Bible with new Believers and perhaps conduct a service project. In Luke 10 we are given a model to follow, to seek a “man of peace.” Thus far, we have not yet identified this person in Caraz. Please pray we find this person to partner with so we may better continue the task we have been commanded to do.

Huallaga Quechua ~ Recap

First let me say that I could never create a story on my own that would describe our trip last week with the Riverland Hills Church. I don’t think the most creative writer of fiction could either. It was an adventure that few have experienced and only the obedient and faithful could survive. This past week 14 Believers and an incredible group of Huallaga Quechua and Spanish translators presented themselves for service in Huánuco. They were continuously challenged by:

1. rain and more rain

2. mud and more mud

3. illness,

4. thievery

5. oxygen levels at elevations of 13,000 feet (only 63% of what you are probably breathing right now)

6. unfamiliar food

7. 6 hours (minimum) of travel daily on single lane roads where one couldn’t lean over far enough to see the bottom

8. trucks and taxis stuck in the road and blocking the way

9. an incompetent missionary driver who backed into a ditch (name withheld by request)

10. fatigue

11. cancelled flights

12. and I know I have left something out!

All were rewarded with occasional sunshine, breathtaking views, friendly people, smiling faces of children, barley coffee, and fresh boiled potatoes.

But more importantly, they were rewarded with continuous protection by the One who called them to GO. It is only by God’s power we can do anything. One person said he believed that the enemy did not want us to be there as we were constantly being attacked. I hesitate to give any kind of “credit” to the enemy but in this case I must agree. And these are the kinds of places we must go to.

The teams’ response, in spite all of the above, was to begin planning another trip to this area. This is what God’s people do and in doing so glorify Him.

Again, thank you for your prayers and I hope you are going to places where you aren’t wanted! ; )

(The above picture was taken in Llacsa at the medical clinic. It is at least 4 hours from town, at the end of the road and at an elevation approaching 13,000 feet. There is a very modest church building there but no resident remembers a worship service ever occurring or a priest visiting the village.)

Pray for Elba Paz

One of our REAP North translators, Elba Paz, emailed me today with news that her mother had passed away today. Early this morning, her mother had been picked up by an ambulance because she did not feel well. By midday, she was gone. Although she will be missed, Elba rejoices that her mother had a strong faith in God and was a wonderful mother.

Please pray for Elba and her siblings to be comforted with His peace and joy.

REAP North Translator Ministry

Thanks to God and to the many prayers being lifted up, my leg is on the mend. For those of you that don't know, I broke it in 3 places and tore a tendon when going down a small mountain slope to a riverbed in November, where I was going to watch 4 new Believers be baptized. After surgery, a blood clot, and the removal of one of the screws, I am on the mend. Little by little, I am relearning to walk. Please pray for my ankle/leg to continue to strengthen; pray for the blood clot to dissolve.

Next week, our classes will start off full blast again with Peruvian students and translators. Since our term will be ending in June, this will be our last term to teach these precious people English lessons and Bible studies. Please pray that God speaks through us to convey the truth about salvation and uses us to disciple each student.

Teams are beginning to trickle in in February. Please pray for God to work in and through the following translators that will be sent out soon with teams from FB Hesperia, Jog Road, Morningside, and Woodland Hills: Robert, Maria R., Noemi, Carlos V., Gladys M., Alejandro, and JB.

One of our new translators, Juan Manuel, has a special prayer request for his cousin. I told him that I would share it with you so that you may also pray: "My three-year-old cousin has a birth defect called imperforate anus, and as the name implies, she has not had an anus since she was born and has a hole in her abdomen as a means through which she defecates." She had surgery this past week on the 12th to surmount the abnormality. Please pray for healing that only our Maker can give! Pray for the doctors, staff, and parents as they care for her.

I wanted to share this letter that one of our team mates received from a pastor in the jungle telling about what God is doing in the Amazon Region. Please read and celebrate with us how God is moving and using churches from the USA to plant churches in Peru.

Hello my Brother. I am very happy to send you this letter because I just got back from trip was a wonderful trip, I put a new name to the mission , YAHUAS IN CHRIST.

thanks for your prayers and support, we now have 8 churches in the villages and 7 groups in the future with the help of our God will be with leaders Churches.

We have a total of 668 believers that includes believers of my Church and children are also counted all these people recognized Christ only forgive themand give them eternal love.

This year we built together with the brethren of my church two chapels in the villages and we are praying for the Lord to provide to buy the land for our church.

We visited the river Atacuary and Mayoruna , . Now the river is growing that enables us to visit more villages we are visiting, Primavera , May 2, san juan, and Cajo cuma, these people are very excited to serve the Lord. pray for Cajo cuma this is a small town but where there are more people of the tribe Yahua. I hope when you come do not forget to take it beyond me a fishing rod, because in this river of this village are a lot of fish. I hope to stay a week my brother we have much to visit but I'd spend a little time to fish.

Please help me in prayer in this. I have to meet 100 youth from the villages for a retreat in Monte Carmelo that will last a week- the 3rd-7th of January. I am praying that you will be able to be there. We hope to have a week of prayer, preaching, and Bible study. I am dividing each village to bring different foods like bananas, meat, fish, etc. I will be leaving this week for 2 weeks to confirm which villages and with youth will be able to come. Please pray for Tania’s health. She will be going to Lima again in January. Continue praying also so that this trip I will be able to take Bibles and study books with me to the villages. I don’t have any to give right now. Thank you so much for all of your support and prayers this year. Continue praying for the boat’s motor because it is failing. Until now it has been a great motor and it has been a great blessing to us during these 5+ years. Next week we are excited because we will be taking hot chocolate and Panetton (a special christmas bread) to villages such as November 9^th and several others. As I mentioned in a previous blog, many Believers have little opportunity for training. This applies to the people of the jungle more than anyone else. The Amazon Basin and jungle could be a synonym for UTTERMOST PARTS, and having been there, in my mind it is. I just received a request for prayer for 3 or 4 brothers who are planning to attend the conference. Pray that the funds ($) transfer for travel expenses arrives in a timely manner and once there, their travels will go well. Also, if God wills, maybe they will bring a friend or two. It is men like these who will carry the Gospel to the Uttermost Parts and beyond.....

Regional Conference in Huaraz, January 25-28

This is a particularly busy and exciting time of the year here in the Callejón de Huaylas and Huaraz. For a number of weeks many people have been preparing for this annual event that continues in attendance. Pictured is the main meeting place for this year’s conference, the Iglesia de Dios. We are expecting over 500 people from all over Perú to fill the sanctuary. Since most pastors, leaders and Believers have little opportunity for formal training this event is an opportunity to learn as well as fellowship with other Believers. Topics will include how to deal with alcohol abuse, recognizing sects, dealing with factions in the church and others.

Please join me in praying for those who will be attending, the speakers and those will be working behind the scenes during the meetings. More prayer requests will be coming later.

We wanted to let everyone know that our friend Alejandro has accepted Christ. We've been praying for a year now that the would follow Christ but he has been counting cost for a while now. Last week after a successful hunt in the jungle (killing a taper, 2 jungle rats (majas) and something else) he accepted Christ. The team there in Atalaya had specifically prayed that God would demonstrate his faithfulness to those on the hunt by making it a success and blessing it. We would like you all to join us praising God for Alejandro and to pray he keeps the passion he has and desire to grow in his walk and reach real depth.
